Construction on the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail bridge, Portland's first new Willamette River bridge in 35 years, is scheduled to begin in July. When finished, it will be the largest no-automobile urban crossing in the United States. When it opens in September 2015, only trains, buses, streetcars, pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to use the 1,720-foot bridge, the centerpiece of the proposed 7.3-mile MAX Orange Line.
